The family and media are two institutions that influence one’s attitude of sexuality, and consequently sexual behaviors. Of importance is the discussion between parents and adolescents attitudes regarding sex. Interestingly, individuals begin to perceive themselves as sexual beings during the age of adolescence, yet little research has been done on sexual behavior in relation to identity formation (Chapman and Werner-Wilson, 2008). However, Chapman and Werner-Wilson found a low but significant negative correlation between parental influence and adolescent attitude regarding sex (2008). As parental influence and discussion regarding sex increased, adolescents attitudes regarding sex became negative in tone, expressing less comfort†¦show more content†¦Media Influence Media such as television, Internet and social media (e.g., facebook, twitter), can lead to adolescent acquisition of information on safe sex behaviors. As of 2001, 75% of adolescents had used the Internet to gain information about health behaviors, with sexual health information ranking in the top three information searches; with the increasing influence of technology, that number is rapidly growing. (Gray, N., Klein, J., Noyce, P.R., Sesselberg, T.S., Cantrill, J.A., 2005). Women were found to have a higher rate of searching for health information online then men, but no noticeable difference was detected among public and private school student users. This latter finding emphasizes no significance in socioeconomic status in utilizing the Internet to search for health information among youth (Gray, N., Klein, J., Noyce, P.R., Sesselberg, T.S., Cantrill, J.A., 2005). Despite the controversy over media as a source of productive and credible information regarding sexual behavior, Ward, et al. (2006) found that â€Å"60% of teens surveyed said that they learned how to say â€Å"no† to a sexual situation by watching television, and 43% said they learned something about how to talk to a partner about safer sex. Longfellows optimism in writin Essay Look not mournfully into the past. It comes not back again. Wisely improve the present. It is thine. Go forth to meet the shadowy future, without fear, and with a manly heart. This is a saying Longfellow read in Germany where his wife died. The words gave him hope for the future. It inspired him to want to write a series of psalms. The first one, A Psalm of Life written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, is an uplifting poem that compels us to feel hope for the future. After reading it the first time it had a powerful effect on me. Surprisingly, he wrote this poem few months after his first wife died. Longfellow took his wifes death and interpreted it as a sign to look at life as fleeting and it passes quickly. I feel that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, after his wifes death, had an optimistic view on life in the poem, A Psalm of Life. The second stanza seems to say that life is here and it must be lived. It is real and not just some dream. Line five supports this with the hopeful exclamation that Life is real! Life is earnest! In the next line he says And the grave is not its goal. Longfellow feels you dont live to die. Death is not the point of living a just life. Lastly in this stanza, he states, Dust thou art, o dust returnest, was not spoken of the soul. Our bodies will turn to dust but the soul will live on. He feel there is an afterlife and we are here forever in spirit. But what we do with our time on earth is what makes us eternal because we are remembered for how we lived our lives. (Lines 5-8, pg. 302) In the fifth stanza Longfellow advises the reader to fight and to be active rather than sitting around in a passive way. We are told to trust no future because we dont know what the future holds. We are to act in the living present because it is the here and now that is important and we must be concerned with worrying that the future will revisit us with the pain and suffering of our past. We are not to live in the past for being stuck in the past will get you nowhere. Then in the sixth stanza, Longfellow tells to be reminded of the lives of great men because we can make our lives sublime. This shows we should look at the heroes of the past, emulate them, and follow their leads. In doing this you yourself can become a hero and leave footprints on the sands of time. We must strive to make a difference in the lives of the future so we may live on forever. (Lines25-32, pg. 302) In the final stanza, Longfellow is prodding us to work toward achieving our goal no matter what the future holds. We must be up and doing and not sitting around watching life go by. We cant be afraid and we must live with a heart for any fate. He is saying that we must accept fate as part of the plan for the greater good of all man. We must never give up in achieving our goal because there is hope for the future. You have to keep on getting up after you fall and try again or you will never accomplish anything meaningful. Lastly, you must learn to labor and to wait. Hard work and patience is what Longfellow is calling for in this final line. He is encouraging us to work with our hearts full of optimism for a bright future. A rose for emily characterization Essay (Lines 34-36, pg. 303) I feel that Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, after his wifes death, had an optimistic outlook in A Psalm of Life. It encourages you to go out and accomplish things. It seems he felt a new resolve to live a more fulfilling life after his depression lifted. An experience with NOFX essays

An experience with NOFX essays On November 26th I went to the Stone Pony in New York to see another of my favorite bands, NOFX. NOFX is a punk-ska band. Punk meaning fast paced drumbeats and quick singing and ska meaning a song played with trumpets. The band members are Fat Mike (vocals, bass), El Hefe (guitar, trumpet, vocals), Eric Melvin (guitar, vocals), and Erik Sandin (drums). The one thing I found out there was that El Hefe sings a lot. I thought he only sings in a few songs but when I heard them play, I noticed that he sang about half of the songs. NOFX music has considerable groove for a punk band and is sparked by the two lead guitarists, Eric Melvin and El Hefe. Tight play between the band's four members, and short, fast, punchy songs, with a laid back approach would even Their songs talk about racism, politics, social problems, sex, drugs, lesbians, bums, alcohol, animal freedom... and many other strange subjects. In their music you will find punk, of course, but also rock, hardcore, ska, even reggae and jazz. If you ask me they are a just a punk-ska band. Their songs are interesting and different from one another. Each song has it's own characteristics. The lyrics are very interesting, sometimes strange, and sometimes incomprehensible. You basically just have to understand them in your The club was packed, or more accurately, stuffed. After much anticipation the punk gods, NOFX hit the stage and the crowd surged with excitement even before they opened the set with one of my favorite songs, "Reagan Sucks." The next song they played was "Bob". They played songs from the album "Flossing a Dead Horse" - which is one massive trumpet solo presented by El Hefe. The next song they played was "Eat the Meek" with trumpet and lead vocals by El Hefe. The mosh pit was monstrous and seemed to gain in size as it rotated in circles ...

A post-graduate year at a boarding school gives students a chance to get used to an independent lifestyle in a supportive and nurturing environment. It can be a great stepping stone to prepare a student for college. Improve College Admissions Chances Many students choose to do a post-graduate year to improve their chances for admission to a particular college. College admissions can be fiercely competitive. If a student has his heart set on getting into a certain college, he may, in fact, be better off waiting out a year in the hopes that his application might be more favorably received. Most private schools offer experienced college counselors to help with the admission process and guide students to craft a personal path to excellence.   Perfect Athletic Skills Other students want to take a year before heading off to college to perfect their athletic skills. From a chance to play on a top team and get noticed by college sports recruiters to strength training and agility preparation, a post graduate year can really give students a leg up on their competition, and get a student noticed by scouts who can get them into top schools. This was a constitution characterized by dictatorship which encouraged the divide and rule tactic. This was a disadvantage to the minorities in such countries as they could not enjoy the resources in their own country. Leadership remains a thing of the majority in the country. The case is not different from the Nazi atrocities that as a result of socialism democracy only sought democracy through liberty where restraint and servitude was a common feature. This encouraged the worst leaders to get on top as room fo r criticism was not present and members were also able to accept various values that were laid out (Hayek 86). At the end it is the dictators who rise to the top and with the support of the large numbers they think independently and come up with decisions that favor them. In the Nazi atrocities innocent people were killed as a result of leadership that was poor and did not put into consideration the interests of their citizens. Killing of women and children in any war is a crime yet such laws were ignored. The constitution set up by the German colonies was one that followed dictatorship making women and children to suffer during war breakout. Morality in the constitution was not addressed since women were raped during the war making them to give birth to bastards an issue that left them tortured psychologically. State power only benefited those with the means and the resources to let the ends stable. Groups without common goals cannot hold themselves together and this relates to the social classes that are formed in the society. Through socialism Nazism thought that they would be able to achieve all round development an issue that was never to be. The results were numerous killings which were as a result of the fatal war in the country and it is only those with the means who were able to walk away alive. From the killings it was evident that it was only those with the numbers in the country and resources who would make it to the top and manipulate those who lacked. The fact that they thirst for power and organization makes them use all the available resources including manipulating the constitution in order to get to the top (King 44). Through strategic power, they leave nothing to the simple power which guarantees them organic growth. The ways in which the economic problems of a country are solved determines how through civilization they will be able to manage their economic affairs. The level of wealth has to be improved in order to effectively build the nat ion. The dictators reach a point where they have to become oppressive to their subjects a move that creates a conflict of interest between them and their citizens. Living under the rules of the regime is what most dictators do and this explains why in most countries they haven’t been able to do away with the old constitution given to them by their colonial powers (Ebenstein 55). These results to a country that is planned where freedom is only limited to those with resources yet those who are poor since socialism is considered by many as a hypocritical system.
